MEDIA RELEASE
People’s Poetry Festival Book Launch to be held Friday November 18th
November 9, 2011, CALGARY, ALBERTA: People’s Poetry Festival (PPF) organizer Dale Herrington, aka podcaster Raw Salvage, has created a new book of poetry gathered during the inaugural festival, held August 19-21, 2011. The Kensington-based festival featured events both on the streets and indoors. Poetry for the book was collected in a variety of ways, such as poem jars in area bars, a Haiku Tree outside of the Roasterie and a journaling station at Higher Ground, in addition to work solicited from featured performers. PPF launches the book on Friday, November 18th, 7:30 pm, at Melange Gastro Lounge as the first installment of filling Station Magazine’s new Open Words series inspired by PPF’s mission to prove that poetry is for everyone. Festival Director Neshali Weera expects a great response to the book, which is the first known book of its kind. “At the end of the 3-day festival we had books, sticky-notes, and pages of poetry written by everyday Calgarians and this poetry was really good. It was funny, it was honest and it was insightful. So, we didn’t have a choice, but to show off the poetic talent that lies within our city by putting this book together for everyone to read.” The event will feature performances by contributors as well as an open mic. The new book will be available for sale at local independent bookstores beginning November 19th.
