Do-It Yourself Verse Booths (DIY Booths)
Kensington
Saturday & Sunday
10:00am – 5:00pm

Free! Plus a few prizes for participating

Writing Haikus, Limericks, and Concrete Poems is like riding a bike; once you’ve written one its easy to climb back on the saddle and do it again. We’ve all done them in grade school, but this time you will exchange the classroom for a sidewalk, a park bench, or the front of your favourite Kensington coffee shop. We’re placing slam stations in the places you’re hanging out, or just waiting around. Grab a pen and place your poem.

Community Scribble
In front of The Roasterie
314-10 St. NW
Grab a pen and add a line Jack Kerouac-style to our endless scroll of paper. After it’s done, look for our community poem online and see how your part fits with the whole.

Haiku Tree
In front of The Roasterie
314-10 St. NW

At the base of the tree is a haiku written by one of our haiku masters, branch off of it with your own haiku related to the original haiku in some way, then get your friends to do the same, and then your neighbour and on and on and on. That’s how you build a haiku tree.

Typewriter Table
In front of The Roasterie
314-10 St. NW

Try out your texting talent — old school — by typing out verse on one of our two typewriters. Keep your work with a small donation, or leave a lyrical line or two for a friend on our community bulletin board.

Finger Paint Your Favourite Phrase
In front of the Ant Hill/Market Collective
148-10 St. NW
Let’s keep it simple. Use your fingers, use paint, and write down your favourite word and place it on our Favourite Words Board.

The People’s Journal Desk
In front of Higher Ground Café
126 Kensington Rd. NW
Poetry and writing, in general, is usually done on your own and in a private space. We want to emphasize the private with a bit of a public twist. Use the study desk to write in the People’s Journal, flip through the pages and read others’ work too.

Silent Reading
In front of Pages on Kensington
1135 Kensington Rd. NW
Poetry is not just about readings, it’s also about reading. Stretch out on our couch, grab a book of rhymes out of our collection, handpicked by Wordsworth, filling station and Pages on Kensington, and read for a while.

In front of the Plaza Theatre
